On offer is a flight case that I fitted out to use as a stage box for microphones. The dimensions are; 50cm x 46cm x 26cm, a size which will fit into the boot of even the smallest of vehicles.
It was originally manufactured by CP Cases, a company with a long history who are still producing both stock and custom flight cases today. This particular flight case is made from vinyl covered lightweight plywood and aluminium extrusions. It was originally a bright blue colour, but I refinished it in Vinylkote satin black in order to match my other cases.
Vinylkote is much more than just a normal plastic paint, it is designed to be used on car interior parts, once applied it cannot be removed from the surface and will not wear off like other finishes. It is testament to the product that it has survived for around 20 years without a blemish.
It has 2 regular sized recessed industrial grade butterfly catches, 2 spring loaded recessed flip handles and 3-rivet ball corners. The handle on the front of the case is one that I fitted, the original was not well placed for balance, resulting in the case knocking into your leg. This new arrangement is much better balanced, there is a slight overlap of the mounting surfaces and I chose not to utilise a couple of the rivet holes. If you wanted to add a couple rivets if would be half an hours work to drill out the metal work and fit them.
I constructed a hardboard and foam divider for 12 standard microphones, anything like a Shure SM57/58 will fit a treat, with slimline condenser microphones like the AKG C451/460 there will be a little free play. As can be seen on the picture below the Samson CO5 fits beautifully. There is an accessories pod section for you to store additional clips, desk stands, clamps, cables or whatever else fits. The lid is captive, with a stay and substantial hinges.
This type of heavy duty road trunk style flight case would cost from £100 new. I have priced this at £39 for a speedy sale, someone will get a bargain.
